1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Emily Lodine of Magnolia on winning a Grammy Award.
1.3WHEREAS, the Grammy Awards, the recording industry's most prestigious awards,
1.4are presented annually by The Recording Academy to honor excellence in the recording arts
1.5and sciences; and
1.6WHEREAS, Emily Lodine is highly respected as a mezzo soprano within the music industry,
1.7and her artistry and mastery of many styles of music has earned accolades from her peers; and
1.8WHEREAS, Emily was most recently awarded the 2014 Prairie Star Award, which
1.9recognizes an artist whose work has made a significant contribution to the arts, by the Southwest
1.10Minnesota Arts Council; and
1.11WHEREAS, she received acclaim for her work in the world premier and recording of Jon
1.12Polifrone's "Requiem," which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; and
1.13WHEREAS, she has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Phillip Glass
1.14Ensemble, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Symphonies of Omaha, Milwaukee, Detroit,
1.15Jacksonville, Indianapolis and Phoenix; and
1.16WHEREAS, she has also made teaching a focus of hers, sharing her knowledge with
1.17students at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Southwest Minnesota State
1.18University in Marshall, Minnesota; and
1.19WHEREAS, she has had five previous Grammy nominations and this year, she got her
1.20first win, as member of the vocal ensemble Conspirare, who won the Grammy for Best Choral
1.21Performance for their recording "The Sacred Spirit of Russia"; and
1.22WHEREAS, the group was presented the Grammy on February 8, 2015, and will perform
1.23again this spring in Texas; and
1.24NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.25that it congratulates Emily Lodine of Magnolia on winning a Grammy Award, and wishes her
1.26well in her future music endeavors.
1.27BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.28enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.29Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Emily Lodine.
