1.1A Senate resolution
1.2acknowledging the 100th anniversary of East Side Neighborhood Services.
1.3WHEREAS, East Side Neighborhood Services was established in 1915 with the mission of
1.4assisting low-income families and individuals, including immigrants and refugees, in achieving a
1.5better life in Minneapolis; and
1.6WHEREAS, a century later, East Side Neighborhood Services continues to improve and
1.7enhance living conditions for individuals, families, and neighborhoods in Northeast and Southeast
1.8Minneapolis, providing basic needs resources and facilitating access to social services; and
1.9WHEREAS, East Side Neighborhood Services addresses numerous issues affecting
1.10contemporary life, including secure employment, effective parenting, school readiness and
1.11literacy, truancy and school performance, adolescent pregnancy, divorce and separation, legal
1.12problems, family violence, mental health, and aging; and
1.13WHEREAS, January 20, 2015, marked East Side Neighborhood Services' centennial; this
1.14milestone will be commemorated with a community open house on May 16, and with a Gala
1.15Celebration at the Nicollet Island Pavilion on September 24; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.17that it recognizes East Side Neighborhood Services for a century of assisting those in need and
1.18strengthening the communities of Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.20an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that
1.21of the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to East Side
1.22Neighborhood Services.
