1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the 50th anniversary of the Powder Puff Clown Club
1.3WHEREAS, the Powder Puff Clown Club originated 50 years ago when determined, brave
1.4women wanted to be clowns; they had tried to join the existing two clubs, but were refused on the
1.5basis of gender discrimination; and
1.6WHEREAS, the Powder Puff Clown Club became the first all-women clown club in the
1.7country, and today the club includes both men and women; and
1.8WHEREAS, three of the original founding members will attend the 50th anniversary
1.9celebration, and the Powder Puff Clown Club continues to perform at many venues, including
1.10parades, senior centers, and numerous community events; and
1.11WHEREAS, the Powder Puff Clown Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary, a tremendous
1.12milestone, on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at their annual banquet at Guldens; and
1.13NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.14congratulates the Powder Puff Clown Club on their 50th anniversary and extends best wishes to
1.15them for the future.
1.16BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.17enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.18Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Powder Puff Clown
1.19Club.
