1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing BONES, aka Mike Hartzell, as an upstanding citizen of St. Paul and icon
1.3on Rice Street.
1.4WHEREAS, BONES was born as Mike Hartzell in St. Paul on February 22, 1947; and
1.5WHEREAS, he attended Washington High School and, after graduation, served in the United
1.6States armed forces in Korea, which impacted the course of his life; and
1.7WHEREAS, after discharge, BONES became highly independent, caring for the North End
1.8neighborhood to the best of his ability; and
1.9WHEREAS, he is a steward of the community, cleaning up streets and sidewalks along Rice
1.10Street and caring for the health of abandoned pets; and
1.11WHEREAS, he believes the world without walls is his home and has worked hard to keep
1.12the community safe; and
1.13WHEREAS, BONES became an iconic figure on Rice Street, and all stores in the area
1.14welcome him with respect; and
1.15WHEREAS, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, a celebration in honor of BONES' birthday
1.16will be held at Lonetti's Lounge on Rice Street in St. Paul; and
1.17NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.18honors BONES, aka Mike Hartzell, as an upstanding citizen of St. Paul and icon on Rice Street,
1.19and extends best wishes to him for his upcoming birthday celebration.
1.20BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.21enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.22Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to BONES, aka Mike
1.23Hartzell.
