1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring the creation of the Honor and Remember Flag as a symbol of
1.3recognition and honor for fallen servicepersons.
1.4WHEREAS, while war deaths have been a part of our heritage since the birth of this nation,
1.5the United States has not instituted an official symbol commemorating fallen servicepersons; and
1.6WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 1034 of the 111th Congress designates the Honor and
1.7Remember Flag, created by Honor and Remember, Inc., to officially recognize and honor fallen
1.8members of the Armed Forces; and
1.9WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's red field represents the brave men and
1.10women who sacrificed their lives for freedom, while the flag's blue star is a symbol of active
1.11service in military conflict that dates back to World War I; and
1.12WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's white border recognizes the purity of
1.13sacrifice, and the flag's gold star signifies the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service who
1.14is not returning home and reflects the value of the life given; and
1.15WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag's folded flag element highlights this nation's
1.16final tribute to a fallen serviceperson and a family's sacrifice, while the flag's flame symbolizes the
1.17eternal spirit of the departed; and
1.18WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag is a unifying symbol recognizing this nation's
1.19solemn debt to the estimated 1.6 million fallen servicepersons throughout history, and the families
1.20and communities who have mourned their loss; NOW, THEREFORE,
1.21BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it honors the creation
1.22of the Honor and Remember Flag, an emblem of the service and sacrifice of the brave men and
1.23women of the United States Armed Forces who have given their lives in the line of duty.
