  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to child labor; exempting certain minors from 
  1.3             minimum age restrictions for work as youth athletic 
  1.4             program referees, umpires, or officials; amending 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 181A.07, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 181A.07, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 4a.  A minor at least 11 years of age and less than 
  1.11  14 years of age shall be exempt from the minimum age provisions 
  1.12  of section 181A.04, subdivision 1, if employed as a youth 
  1.13  athletic program referee, umpire, or official for an age bracket 
  1.14  younger than the minor's own age if an adult representing the 
  1.15  athletic program is on the premises at which the athletic 
  1.16  program event is occurring and a person responsible for the 
  1.17  athletic program possesses a written acknowledgment of the 
  1.18  minor's parent or guardian consenting to the minor's employment 
  1.19  as a referee, umpire, or official. 
  1.20     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.21     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
