  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; validating middle school 
  1.3             licenses when schools are closed due to declining 
  1.4             enrollment. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [VALIDITY OF MIDDLE SCHOOL LICENSES SCHOOL 
  1.7   CLOSURE.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding any Minnesota law or Minnesota rule to the 
  1.9   contrary, a teacher holding an elementary school license valid 
  1.10  for teaching kindergarten through grade 6 and a middle school 
  1.11  license valid for teaching grades 5 through 9 prior to September 
  1.12  1, 2001, may teach in grades 7 and 8 of any school 
  1.13  organizational pattern in those subjects or fields for which 
  1.14  valid licensure is held when the school where the middle school 
  1.15  teacher teaches has been closed due to declining school district 
  1.16  enrollment. 
  1.17     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.18  following final enactment.
