A bill for an act
relating to transportation; highways; prohibiting certain activities at rest areas;
prescribing petty misdemeanor penalty; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapter 160.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin Prohibited activities. new text end

new text begin It is unlawful at rest areas to:
new text end

new text begin (1) fail to dispose of travel-related trash and rubbish either by removal from the site
or by depositing it in designated containers;
new text end

new text begin (2) dump household or commercial trash and rubbish into containers or anywhere
else on site;
new text end

new text begin (3) drain or dump refuse or waste from any trailer, recreational vehicle, or other
vehicle except where receptacles are provided and designated to receive the refuse or
waste;

new text begin (4) consume alcoholic beverages or possess open containers of alcoholic beverages,
except in accordance with section 169A.35, subdivision 6; or

new text begin (5) use or occupy a site or building for any purpose other than resting and refreshing
of travelers or obtaining tourism or travel information in accordance with section 86A.05,
subdivision 12, unless specifically permitted by the Department of Transportation on a
case-by-case basis.

violation of subdivision 1, clause (4), is a misdemeanor.
