A bill for an act
relating to emergency medical services; appropriating money for ambulance service
personnel training programs.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin (a) $250,000 in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of education for a grant program to fund ambulance service personnel training programs
for secondary school students. A school district may use a grant awarded under this paragraph
to offer an ambulance service personnel training program to secondary school students in
partnership with a postsecondary institution. The program may be offered at the secondary
school or at the postsecondary institution and may include dual enrollment courses for credit
or be offered for no credit. The commissioner must award 80 percent of the grant funds to
school districts with an administrative office outside the seven-county metropolitan area.

new text begin (b) $100,000 in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of education for a grant program to school districts for first aid, cardiopulmonary
resuscitation, and other ambulance service personnel training programs offered through
school district community education programs. The commissioner must award 80 percent
of the grant funds to school districts with an administrative office outside the seven-county
metropolitan area.

Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities to expand or supplement
ambulance service personnel training programs offered at state colleges.
