A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; appropriating money for lead tackle trade-in program.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin LEAD TACKLE TRADE-IN PROGRAM.

new text begin $....... in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of
natural resources to establish a lead tackle trade-in program that allows a person to exchange
lead tackle for nontoxic fishing tackle or for a voucher or coupon for nontoxic fishing tackle.
The commissioner must work with fishing tackle manufacturers, fishing tackle retailers,
conservation organizations, and other interested parties in establishing the program. Trade-in
locations must be located statewide. The program must ensure safe handling and disposal
of lead tackle exchanged as part of the program. This is a onetime appropriation and is
available until June 30, 2022.
