A bill for an act
relating to agriculture; requiring meat processing recommendations; appropriating
money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; MEAT PROCESSING REPORT.

new text begin $10,000 in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of agriculture to consult livestock farmers, meat processors, other stakeholders, and
Department of Agriculture staff to develop recommendations regarding how best to advance
the economic interests of small and mid-sized livestock farmers by increasing access to
animal slaughter and meat processing. The commissioner must give special attention to the
potential environmental benefits of grazing livestock. No later than February 1, 2021, the
commissioner must report to the legislative committees and divisions with jurisdiction over
agriculture finance. This is a onetime appropriation.
