A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; appropriating money to enhance efforts to ensure that
staff of the Department of Natural Resources includes members of communities
traditionally underrepresented on the agency's staff.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; STAFF FROM UNDERREPRESENTED
COMMUNITIES.

new text begin $900,000 in fiscal year 2019 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of natural resources to enhance department efforts to hire and retain employees who are
members of communities that have traditionally been underrepresented in the department's
staff. The commissioner must submit the following reports to the legislative auditor and to
the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction
over the environment and natural resources:

new text begin (1) before spending any of the money appropriated in this act, a plan to enhance hiring
and retention of employees who are members of these communities; and

new text begin (2) a quarterly report on expenditures of the money appropriated in this act until all of
the money is spent or the appropriation cancels.
