A bill for an act
 relating to corrections; authorizing placement in county jail or detention center for
defendants with 90 days or less remaining in term of imprisonment; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 609.105, subdivision 2.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2018, section 609.105, subdivision 2, is amended to read:


Subd. 2.

Place of confinement.

The commissioner of corrections shall determine the
place of confinement in a prison, reformatory, or other facility of the Department of
Corrections established by law for the confinement of convicted persons and prescribe
reasonable conditions and rules for their employment, conduct, instruction, and discipline
within or without the facility.new text begin When the remaining term of imprisonment for the convicted
person upon commitment is for 90 days or less, the commissioner of corrections may contract
with a county jail or detention center for placement of the convicted person for the remainder
of the person's term.
