  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the state building code; directing the 
  1.3             department of administration to adopt a building code 
  1.4             for rehabilitation of historic structures; proposing 
  1.5             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 16B. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [16B.614] [CODE FOR REHABILITATION OF HISTORIC 
  1.8   STRUCTURES.] 
  1.9      By July 1, 2001, the commissioner must adopt rules 
  1.10  establishing a building code for the renovation and 
  1.11  rehabilitation of historic structures, including properties 
  1.12  listed on the National Register of Historic Places and 
  1.13  properties designated by either a certified local government or 
  1.14  a heritage preservation commission created under the National 
  1.15  Preservation Act of 1966 and whose designation is approved by 
  1.16  the state historic preservation officer.  The commissioner may 
  1.17  adopt a model code by reference, with necessary modifications 
  1.18  for Minnesota conditions. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective the day after final enactment.
