  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to child care licensing; child care centers; 
  1.3             specifying the amount of annual inservice training 
  1.4             required for child care center employees; amending 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 245A.14, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 245A.14, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 8.  [INSERVICE TRAINING; CHILD CARE CENTERS.] (a) The 
  1.11  director and all program staff persons at child care centers 
  1.12  must complete the following amounts of inservice training 
  1.13  annually: 
  1.14     (1) Individuals possessing a baccalaureate degree in any 
  1.15  field from an accredited college or university must complete 20 
  1.16  hours of training; 
  1.17     (2) Individuals with a child development associate or 
  1.18  assistant credential, individuals with a certificate or 
  1.19  credential for a two-year program in child development or early 
  1.20  childhood education from an accredited community or technical 
  1.21  college, and individuals with two years full-time post-secondary 
  1.22  education from an accredited college or university must complete 
  1.23  25 hours of training; and 
  1.24     (3) All other program staff persons must complete 40 hours 
  1.25  of training. 
  1.26     (b) The number of required training hours may be prorated 
  2.1   for individuals not employed full-time or for an entire year. 
  2.2      (c) This subdivision supersedes Minnesota Rules, part 
  2.3   9503.0035, subpart 4, paragraph B.  The remainder of Minnesota 
  2.4   Rules, part 9503.0035, subpart 4, remains in effect unless 
  2.5   superseded by other law.
