A bill for an act
relating to agriculture; appropriating money for the Forever Green Agriculture
Initiative at the University of Minnesota.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin $20,000,000 in fiscal year 2023 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of agriculture for grants to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota to fund the
Forever Green Agriculture Initiative and protect the state's natural resources while increasing
the efficiency, profitability, and productivity of Minnesota farmers by incorporating perennial
and winter-annual crops into existing agricultural practices. Of this amount, up to $5,000,000
is for equipment and physical infrastructure to support breeding and agronomic activities
necessary to develop perennial and winter-annual crops. This is a onetime appropriation
and is available until June 30, 2028.
