A bill for an act
relating to higher education; appropriating money to develop educational
materials to increase awareness of early childhood through grade 12 fields of
teaching.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; EARLY CHILDHOOD THROUGH GRADE 12
TEACHER SHORTAGE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES.

new text begin $....... in fiscal year 2017 is appropriated from the general fund to the Board of
Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) for use by any
MnSCU institution and the University of Minnesota to develop educational materials
that increase awareness of career opportunities available in the fields of early childhood
through grade 12 education. The educational materials developed under this section must
be appropriate for students from 7th grade through the second year of postsecondary
education, students of color, and rural communities. Materials may be developed
in collaboration with Education Minnesota, school districts, and the Department of
Education, representing employers in the field of teaching.
