A bill for an act
relating to economic development; appropriating money for grants to pay for staff
to issue entry permits for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE AREA STAFFING GRANTS;
APPROPRIATION.

new text begin (a) $250,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of employment and economic development to make grants on a first-come, first-served
basis to businesses in communities adjoining the Boundary Waters Canoe Area to pay for
staff to issue entry permits to visitors. The maximum grant per business is $15,000.

new text begin (b) For the purposes of this section, "subtraction" has the meaning given in Minnesota
Statutes, section 290.0132, subdivision 1, and the requirements in that section apply to this
section. The definitions in Minnesota Statutes, section 290.01, apply to this section.

new text begin (d) Grants under this section are excluded from income, as defined in Minnesota Statutes,
section 290A.03, subdivision 3.
