A bill for an act
proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution by adding a section to
article XIII; recognizing as marriage only a union between a man and a woman;
limiting validity of certain other relationships.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

new text begin An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution is proposed to the people. If the
amendment is adopted, a section shall be added to article XIII, to read:

Sec. 13.

new text begin Only a marriage between a man and a woman shall be valid or recognized in
Minnesota. The uniting of two or more persons in a civil union, domestic partnership, or
other quasi-marital relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Minnesota.

Sec. 2. new text begin QUESTION.

new text begin The proposed amendment shall be submitted to the people at the 2006 general
election. The question submitted shall be:

new text begin "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that only a marriage
between a man and a woman shall be valid or recognized and to limit the validity and
recognition of other relationships?
