A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; appropriating money for deer testing.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin TESTING DEER FOR PFAS; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $....... in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of
natural resources to test for the presence of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances
(PFAS) in the state's wild deer population. Priority must be given to testing deer located
near areas where PFAS have been detected. The commissioner, in consultation with the
commissioner of health, must develop protocols for informing the public if levels of PFAS
in the wild deer population have the potential to impact the health of people consuming
wild deer. The commissioner must submit a report summarizing the results of the testing
and the protocols to the chairs and ranking minority members of the house of representatives
and senate committees and divisions with jurisdiction over the environment and natural
resources finance and policy by March 15, 2021. This is a onetime appropriation.
