  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; permitting certain employees 
  1.3             transferred to the Minnesota state retirement system 
  1.4             correctional employees plan to purchase prior service 
  1.5             credit for certain eligible state service. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [COVERAGE FOR PRIOR STATE SERVICE.] 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [APPLICATION.] This section applies to a 
  1.9   person who began employment with the department of corrections 
  1.10  in August 1993 after 12 years of employment with the department 
  1.11  of human services, and whose position was transferred to the 
  1.12  correctional employees retirement plan by Laws 1996, chapter 
  1.13  408, article 8, section 12, 14, or 15. 
  1.14     Subd. 2.  [PURCHASE OF PRIOR SERVICE 
  1.15  CREDIT.] Notwithstanding Laws 1996, chapter 408, article 8, 
  1.16  section 22, subdivision 1, paragraph (d), a person described in 
  1.17  subdivision 1 may purchase prior service credit for eligible 
  1.18  state service and have appropriate assets transferred to the 
  1.19  correctional employees retirement plan as provided in Laws 1996, 
  1.20  chapter 408, article 8, section 22.  Payment for the purchase 
  1.21  must be made in accordance with Laws 1996, chapter 408, article 
  1.22  8, section 22, subdivision 2, by December 31, 2002. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
