A bill for an act
relating to state government; appropriating money for addressing educational
disparities for American Indian students.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; REDUCE EDUCATIONAL DISPARITIES FOR
AMERICAN INDIAN STUDENTS.

new text begin $500,000 in fiscal year 2017 is appropriated from the general fund to the
commissioner of education to address the educational disparities of American Indian
students. Of this amount, $250,000 is for the Northwest Indian Community Development
Center, and $250,000 is for the American Indian Opportunities and Industrialization
Center. The Northwest Indian Community Development Center shall be the fiscal agent
for this funding. This appropriation shall be used to provide staffing, materials, equipment,
outreach and retention for the educational program, and student tutoring and testing.
