  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; mandating that certain notice 
  1.3             be provided to employees who take leave of absence 
  1.4             from the public employees retirement association; 
  1.5             amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 353.27, by 
  1.6             adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 353.27, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 4a.  [REQUIRED NOTICE.] This subdivision applies if a 
  1.11  member is on a leave of absence during or after which the member 
  1.12  has a right to obtain allowable service by making payments to 
  1.13  the fund.  In such a case, the employer and the association must 
  1.14  notify the member as soon as possible of the member's right to 
  1.15  obtain allowable service by making payments to the fund, and of 
  1.16  how the member may exercise this right.
