  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human rights; prohibiting reprisals by any 
  1.3             person; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 
  1.4             363.03, subdivision 7. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 363.03, 
  1.7   subdivision 7, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 7.  [REPRISALS.] It is an unfair discriminatory 
  1.9   practice for any employer, labor organization, employment 
  1.10  agency, public accommodation, public service, educational 
  1.11  institution, or owner, lessor, lessee, sublessee, assignee or 
  1.12  managing agent of any real property, or any real estate broker, 
  1.13  real estate salesperson, or employee or agent thereof a person 
  1.14  to intentionally engage in any reprisal against any person 
  1.15  because that person: 
  1.16     (1) Opposed a practice forbidden under this chapter or has 
  1.17  filed a charge, testified, assisted, or participated in any 
  1.18  manner in an investigation, proceeding, or hearing under this 
  1.19  chapter; or 
  1.20     (2) Associated with a person or group of persons who are 
  1.21  disabled or who are of different race, color, creed, religion, 
  1.22  sexual orientation, or national origin. 
  1.23     A reprisal includes, but is not limited to, any form of 
  1.24  intimidation, retaliation, or harassment.  It is a reprisal for 
  1.25  an employer to do any of the following with respect to an 
  2.1   individual because that individual has engaged in the activities 
  2.2   listed in clause (1) or (2):  refuse to hire the individual; 
  2.3   depart from any customary employment practice; transfer or 
  2.4   assign the individual to a lesser position in terms of wages, 
  2.5   hours, job classification, job security, or other employment 
  2.6   status; or inform another employer that the individual has 
  2.7   engaged in the activities listed in clause (1) or (2).
