  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; expanding eligibility for 
  1.3             the senior citizen drug program; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1998, section 256.955, by adding a 
  1.5             subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 256.955, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2a.  [EXPANDED ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA.] Within the 
  1.10  limits of available appropriations and funding, the commissioner 
  1.11  shall expand the program eligibility in the following order: 
  1.12     (1) asset limits shall be increased to $15,000 for a single 
  1.13  person and $30,000 for a married couple; 
  1.14     (2) income limits shall not exceed 175 percent of the 
  1.15  federal poverty guidelines; and 
  1.16     (3) a person who is disabled as defined in section 256D.35, 
  1.17  subdivision 8a, shall be eligible for coverage under the senior 
  1.18  prescription drug program.
