  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to raffles; authorizing a volunteer fire 
  1.3             department to conduct an annual raffle under certain 
  1.4             conditions; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             349.166, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 349.166, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 5.  [RAFFLES; VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS.] A 
  1.10  volunteer fire department, as defined in section 424A.001, 
  1.11  subdivision 2, may conduct an annual raffle by registering with 
  1.12  the board and paying a $25 raffle registration fee.  The raffle 
  1.13  must not raise more than $5,000 in funds, which may be used only 
  1.14  for firefighting purposes, including, but not limited to, 
  1.15  training and equipment.  If the raffle is conducted in 
  1.16  compliance with this subdivision, it is exempt from the other 
  1.17  provisions of this chapter.
