  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to government data; allowing property 
  1.3             taxpayers to request that personal information be 
  1.4             withheld from use for business purposes; proposing 
  1.5             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 13. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [13.512] [PROPERTY TAX DATA; OPTION TO WITHHOLD 
  1.8   ACCESS FOR BUSINESS PURPOSES.] 
  1.9      A county shall send an owner of property in the county that 
  1.10  is subject to property taxation a clear and conspicuous notice 
  1.11  that the owner's name, address, and other information may be 
  1.12  used, rented, or sold for business purposes, including surveys, 
  1.13  marketing, and solicitation.  The notice must be in a form that 
  1.14  includes a provision under which the owner may request that the 
  1.15  owner's name and address be excluded from lists generated by the 
  1.16  county and sold for those business purposes.  If the property 
  1.17  owner so requests on the form provided, the county shall exclude 
  1.18  the owner's name and address from any list generated by the 
  1.19  county and sold for business purposes, if the business purpose 
  1.20  is conducting surveys, marketing, or solicitation.
