1.1      A resolution
1.2      memorializing the President and the United States Congress to name the Rochester 
1.3      Veterans Outpatient Clinic the Corporal Chuck Lindberg Clinic.
1.4      WHEREAS, Charles Willard Lindberg was born June 26, 1920, in Grand Forks, North 
1.5      Dakota; and  
1.6      WHEREAS, he entered the United States Marine Corps in Spokane, Washington, on 
1.7      January 8, 1942; and
1.8      WHEREAS, while serving in the Pacific in World War II with the Second Marine Raider 
1.9      Battalion and with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division, he, along 
1.10     with five other Marines, raised the original American flag on Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945; and
1.11     WHEREAS, he now resides in Richfield, Minnesota, and is the last survivor of the original 
1.12     Iwo Jima flag raising; and
1.13     WHEREAS, Charles Lindberg continues to serve various veterans groups and organizations 
1.14     and remains dedicated to their future, and to his country; NOW, THEREFORE,
1.15     BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota  that it urges the President 
1.16     and the Congress of the United States to name the Rochester Veterans Outpatient Clinic the 
1.17     Corporal Chuck Lindberg Clinic.
1.18     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the  State of Minnesota is 
1.19     directed to prepare copies of this  memorial and transmit them to the President of  the United 
1.20     States, the Secretary of the Navy, the President and the Secretary of the  United States Senate, the 
2.1      Speaker and the Clerk of the United  States House of Representatives, and Minnesota's Senators 
2.2      and  Representatives in Congress.
