  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transportation; authorizing issuance of 
  1.3             bonds for transit-related capital improvements; 
  1.4             appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION FOR METROPOLITAN TRANSIT.] 
  1.7      $16,000,000 is appropriated to the metropolitan council 
  1.8   from the general fund for bus purchases, transit stations, 
  1.9   metered ramp bypasses, and other transit-related improvements. 
  1.10     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION FOR TRANSIT CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS.] 
  1.11     $....... is appropriated from the bond proceeds fund to the 
  1.12  metropolitan council for transit capital improvements in the 
  1.13  metropolitan area.  The funds shall be used as follows: 
  1.14     (1) $12,000,000 to build a transit garage in the east 
  1.15  metropolitan area to replace the existing Snelling Avenue bus 
  1.16  facility; 
  1.17     (2) $....... to build a child care center in the new 
  1.18  transit garage; 
  1.19     (3) $....... to clean up the Snelling Avenue bus facility 
  1.20  site; and 
  1.21     (4) $4,500,000 to upgrade the council's transit 
  1.22  communications and control facility. 
  1.23     Sec. 3.  [BOND SALE AUTHORIZATION.] 
  1.24     To provide the money appropriated in section 2 from the 
  1.25  bond proceeds fund, the commissioner of finance, on request of 
  2.1   the governor, shall sell and issue general obligation bonds of 
  2.2   the state in an amount of $....... in the manner, upon the 
  2.3   terms, and with the effect prescribed by Minnesota Statutes, 
  2.4   sections 16A.631 to 16A.675, and by the Minnesota Constitution, 
  2.5   article XI, sections 4 to 7. 
  2.6      Sec. 4.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.7      Sections 1 to 3 are effective July 1, 1998.
