  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to human services; modifying the method of 
  1.3             paying assistance under the Minnesota family 
  1.4             investment program-statewide; amending Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 256J.24, by adding a 
  1.6             subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.9   256J.24, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 8.  [ASSISTANCE PAID TO ELIGIBLE ASSISTANCE 
  1.11  UNITS.] Payments for shelter and utilities up to the amount of 
  1.12  MFIP-S benefits for which the assistance unit is eligible shall 
  1.13  be vendor paid for as many months as the assistance unit is 
  1.14  eligible or six months, whichever comes first.  The residual 
  1.15  amount of the grant after vendor payment, if any, must be paid 
  1.16  to the MFIP-S caregiver. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective for all applications for the 
  1.19  Minnesota family investment program-statewide made on or after 
  1.20  April 1, 1997.
