A bill for an act
 relating to public safety; requiring a modification to the sex offender sentencing
grid.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin MODIFICATION TO SEX OFFENDER SENTENCING GRID.

new text begin Notwithstanding the modification procedures described in Minnesota Statutes,
section 244.09, subdivision 11, and Minnesota Rules, chapter 3000, the Sentencing
Guidelines Commission, acting without a public hearing, shall modify the sex offender
sentencing grid to ensure that it provides for an increase of not greater than 20 percent and
a decrease of not greater than 15 percent in the presumptive fixed sentence. The modified
grid shall be effective immediately upon issuance by the commission.
