  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to health; requiring a study on the increased 
  1.3             incidence of respiratory diseases in northeastern and 
  1.4             central Minnesota; appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [RESPIRATORY DISEASE STUDY.] 
  1.7      The commissioner of health shall collect and analyze 
  1.8   information regarding the increased incidence of respiratory 
  1.9   diseases, including mesothelioma and asbestosis, in northeastern 
  1.10  and central Minnesota to determine the cause of these diseases.  
  1.11  The commissioner shall also make recommendations for the 
  1.12  implementation of a statewide occupational respiratory disease 
  1.13  information system.  The commissioner shall submit a report on 
  1.14  the findings and recommendations to the legislature by January 
  1.15  15, 1999. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.17     $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.18  commissioner of health for the study required under section 1.
