A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring a student who assaults a teacher to be expelled
from school; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 121A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [121A.441] EXPULSION FOR ASSAULTING A TEACHER.

new text begin (a) A school board must expel a student who assaults a teacher. The duration of the
expulsion is at the discretion of the school board. "Assault" has the meaning given in
section 128C.08, subdivision 1.

new text begin (b) A student expelled under this section cannot be placed in the classroom of the
assaulted teacher unless the teacher agrees to the placement.
