  1.1                             A resolution
  1.2             urging the United Nations to admit the Republic of 
  1.3             Taiwan as a full member. 
  1.4      
  1.5      WHEREAS, the Republic of Taiwan is the 14th largest trading 
  1.6   nation in the world and ranks 7th in outbound investment, 20th 
  1.7   in gross national product, and 25th in per capita income; and 
  1.8      WHEREAS, the population of the Republic of Taiwan is larger 
  1.9   than that of two-thirds of the members of the United Nations; 
  1.10  and 
  1.11     WHEREAS, the Republic of Taiwan has consistently 
  1.12  demonstrated her support for democracy and peace in the world, 
  1.13  her contribution to regional and international development, and 
  1.14  her participation in overseas relief programs; and 
  1.15     WHEREAS, seven Central American countries have proposed to 
  1.16  the United Nations the establishment of an ad hoc committee to 
  1.17  study and analyze the exceptional situation of the Republic of 
  1.18  Taiwan in the international community so as to find a fair and 
  1.19  feasible solution to the issue of her participation within the 
  1.20  framework of the United Nations; NOW, THEREFORE, 
  1.21     BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislature of the State of Minnesota 
  1.22  that the people of the Republic of Taiwan deserve appropriate 
  1.23  recognition and credit as dynamic participants in the 
  1.24  international community; 
  2.1      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Republic of Taiwan should 
  2.2   be accorded full membership status in the United Nations and all 
  2.3   the affiliated organizations; 
  2.4      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Government 
  2.5   give due consideration to rendering active support to an 
  2.6   important trading partner and former ally so as to expedite the 
  2.7   full participation of the Republic of Taiwan in the 
  2.8   international community in general and the United Nations in 
  2.9   particular; 
  2.10     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of State of the 
  2.11  State of Minnesota transmit suitable copies of this resolution 
  2.12  to the Secretary General of the United Nations, the President of 
  2.13  the United States, and to the Minnesota Representatives and 
  2.14  Senators in Congress.
