  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to consumer protection; regulating the use of 
  1.3             automatic dialing systems; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.4             1996, section 325E.26, by adding a subdivision; 
  1.5             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.6             chapter 325E. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 325E.26, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 2a.  [AUTOMATIC DIALING SYSTEM.] "Automatic dialing 
  1.11  system" means equipment that has the capacity to:  (1) store or 
  1.12  produce telephone numbers to be called, using a random or 
  1.13  sequential number generator; and (2) dial these numbers. 
  1.14     The term includes predictive and power dialers. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [325E.275] [USE OF AUTOMATIC DIALING SYSTEM.] 
  1.16     A caller shall not use an automatic dialing system to call 
  1.17  a number more than once, whether or not the call is answered.
