A bill for an act
proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution by adding a section to
article XIII; recognizing as marriage or its legal equivalent only a union between
one man and one woman.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

new text begin An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution is proposed to the people. If the
amendment is adopted, a section shall be added to article XIII, to read:

new text begin Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a
marriage in Minnesota. Any other relationship shall not be recognized as a marriage or its
legal equivalent by the state or any of its political subdivisions.

Sec. 2. new text begin SUBMISSION TO VOTERS.

new text begin The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at the 2008 general
election. The question submitted must be:

new text begin "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that the state and its
political subdivisions shall recognize marriage or its legal equivalent as limited to only the
union of one man and one woman?
