A bill for an act
relating to local government; appropriating money for grants to encourage local
government units to participate in inter-local service sharing agreements in the
delivery of public safety services.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin REGIONAL INTER-LOCAL SERVICE SHARING GRANTS.

new text begin $....... is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2008 to the commissioner
of public safety to provide grants to local units of government to fund transition costs
associated with entering into regional or inter-local service sharing agreements in the
area of public safety. Grants must go to local government units that are entering into
these multijurisdictional agreements to facilitate cost savings, improve efficiency, and
streamline the delivery of services. The appropriation is available until June 30, 2009.
