  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to the Minneapolis park and recreation board; 
  1.3             providing for the appointment of various employees; 
  1.4             amending Laws 1969, chapter 1024, section 1, as 
  1.5             amended. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Laws 1969, chapter 1024, section 1, as amended 
  1.8   by Laws 1983, chapter 130, section 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Section 1.  [MINNEAPOLIS PARK AND RECREATION BOARD 
  1.10  EMPLOYEES.] 
  1.11     Notwithstanding any provisions of the Minneapolis City 
  1.12  Charter, Veterans Preference Act, or Civil Service rule, law or 
  1.13  regulation to the contrary, the superintendent of the park and 
  1.14  recreation board of the City of Minneapolis may appoint any 
  1.15  suitable person as 
  1.16     (a) assistant superintendent for administration, 
  1.17     (b) assistant superintendent for operations, 
  1.18     (c) assistant superintendent for recreation, 
  1.19     (d) assistant superintendent for planning, 
  1.20     (e) director, park engineering, 
  1.21     (f) director, park operations, 
  1.22     (g) director, park forestry, 
  1.23     (h) manager, special services, 
  1.24     (i) manager, finance, 
  1.25     (j) manager, recreation programs, 
  2.1      (k) park engineer II, 
  2.2      (l) landscape architect II, 
  2.3      (m) park and recreation planner I, 
  2.4      (n) park and recreation program research analyst, and 
  2.5      (o) coordinator, environmental education, 
  2.6      (p) manager, information technology services, 
  2.7      (q) personnel services representative, and 
  2.8      (r) park police captain, 
  2.9      and each shall be in the unclassified service of the city 
  2.10  and shall serve at the pleasure of the superintendent.  The 
  2.11  persons shall be eligible for the same employee benefits as 
  2.12  persons in the classified service.  An incumbent of a position 
  2.13  listed in this section on the effective date of this act shall 
  2.14  be appointed to the position in accordance with this section. 
  2.15     Sec. 2.  [LOCAL APPROVAL.] 
  2.16     This act is effective the day after compliance with 
  2.17  Minnesota Statutes, section 645.021, subdivision 3, by the 
  2.18  Minneapolis park and recreation board.
