  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to probation; appropriating money for 
  1.3             probation services to increase the number of probation 
  1.4             officers in Minnesota. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.7      $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.8   commissioner of corrections for increased funding for probation 
  1.9   services.  This funding shall be used to increase the number of 
  1.10  state and county probation officers in Minnesota.  
  1.11     Counties that deliver probation services through Minnesota 
  1.12  Statutes, chapter 244, shall receive grants through a grant 
  1.13  process developed by the commissioner. 
  1.14     The commissioner shall distribute money appropriated for 
  1.15  additional state and county probation officers according to the 
  1.16  formula contained in Minnesota Statutes, section 401.10. 
  1.17     This appropriation is available until June 30, 1999.
