  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; regulating disclosures of 
  1.3             nonpublic personal information; proposing coding for 
  1.4             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 72A. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [72A.48] [NONDISCLOSURE OF NONPUBLIC PERSONAL 
  1.7   INFORMATION.] 
  1.8      No person engaged in the business of insurance shall 
  1.9   disclose any nonpublic personal information contrary to the 
  1.10  provisions of Title V of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, United 
  1.11  States Code, title 15, sections 6801 to 6827.  A violation of 
  1.12  this section is considered an unfair or deceptive act or 
  1.13  practice in the business of insurance and is subject to the 
  1.14  penalties and remedies under sections 72A.17 to 72A.32. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.16     Section 1 is effective July 1, 2001.
