  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for a youth works 
  1.3             program report to the legislature; appropriating 
  1.4             money; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             124D.45, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 124D.45, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2a.  [REPORT TO LEGISLATURE.] The commission shall 
  1.10  report to the legislature in the second year of each biennium 
  1.11  summarizing the activities of the commission and its grantee 
  1.12  organizations, and recommending any changes to improve or expand 
  1.13  the program. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.15     $2,060,000 in fiscal year 2000 and $2,060,000 in fiscal 
  1.16  year 2001 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.17  department of children, families, and learning for the youth 
  1.18  works program.  Of this amount, $165,000 each year is to support 
  1.19  programs and members in performing community service and 
  1.20  $107,000 each year is for administrative expenses.  Any balance 
  1.21  in the first year does not cancel but is available in the second 
  1.22  year.
