  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to public employment; requiring certain 
  1.3             employer insurance payments on behalf of retired 
  1.4             public employees; proposing coding for new law in 
  1.5             Minnesota Statutes, chapter 179A; repealing Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes 1994, section 179A.20, subdivision 2a. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [179A.31] [RETIREE HEALTH INSURANCE.] 
  1.9      A contract or personnel plan that provides employer-paid 
  1.10  health insurance to a former employee upon retirement must 
  1.11  continue to provide at least the same level of employer-paid 
  1.12  health insurance benefits to the employee at all times after 
  1.13  retirement.  However, the contract or plan may provide for 
  1.14  coordination with Medicare benefits when the employee becomes 
  1.15  eligible for these benefits. 
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.17     Minnesota Statutes 1994, section 179A.20, subdivision 2a, 
  1.18  is repealed. 
  1.19     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  1.21  enactment and apply to payments made after that date to all 
  1.22  employees who retired before or who retire after that date.
