A bill for an act
relating to education; allowing students participating
in Minnesota State High School League activities in
another district during a teachers' strike to maintain
their eligibility to play after the strike; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 128C.02, by adding a
subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 128C.02, is
amended by adding a subdivision to read:

new text begin Eligibility to play during and after a strike.

new text begin A student enrolled in a school district that experiences a
teachers' strike during the school year remains eligible to
participate in the regular sports season and in contests, meets,
and tournaments in that district whether or not the student
receives coaching or training, participates in sports or
competes in contests, meets, or tournaments in another district
during the strike period if the student returns to participate
in the district that experienced the strike within five school
days after the day on which the strike ends, and consistent with
other league eligibility requirements.
