A bill for an act
relating to education; increasing county connections with licensed family child
care providers; appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; INCREASED PROVIDER CONNECTIONS.

new text begin (a) $....... in fiscal year 2008 and $....... in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated from
the general fund to Hennepin County and $....... in fiscal year 2008 and $....... in fiscal
year 2009 are appropriated from the general fund to Ramsey County to contract with a
nonprofit organization to work with the contracting county and county-based licensed
family child care providers to make training and mentoring available to licensed family
child care providers and to serve as a conduit for information on family and child
care-related resources, consistent with paragraphs (b) and (c). All the appropriations
are available until June 30, 2009.

new text begin (b) To (1) improve county contact activities with county-based licensed family child
care providers; (2) enhance county social services, public health services, and economic
assistance services available to eligible families, parents, and children; and (3) improve
the quality of child care through peer support and coaching networks, the nonprofit
organization under paragraph (a) must make grants available to interested county-based
licensed family child care providers to serve as contacts for children and families using
licensed family child care.

with county-based licensed family child care providers and report to the early childhood
education committees of the legislature by February 15, 2010.
