  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; public safety; adjusting 
  1.3             eligibility for soft body armor reimbursement; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 299A.38, 
  1.5             subdivision 3.  
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 299A.38, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.] (a) Only vests that 
  1.10  either meet or exceed the requirements of standard 0101.03 of 
  1.11  the National Institute of Justice or that meet or exceed the 
  1.12  requirements of that standard, except wet armor conditioning, 
  1.13  are eligible for reimbursement. 
  1.14     (b) Eligibility for reimbursement is limited to vests 
  1.15  bought after December 31, 1986, by or for peace officers (1) who 
  1.16  did not own a vest meeting the requirements of paragraph (a) 
  1.17  before the purchase, or (2) who owned a vest that was at least 
  1.18  six five years old.
