A bill for an act
relating to public safety; providing expedited process for first-time DWI
offenders to plead guilty; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 169A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [169A.435] FIRST-TIME OFFENDER; EXPEDITED GUILTY PLEA.

new text begin A person charged with violating section 169A.26, subdivision 1, paragraph (b)
(third-degree driving while impaired, refusal to test); or 169A.27 (fourth-degree driving
while impaired) who does not have a qualified prior impaired driving incident and who
wishes to plead guilty to the offense must be given a court date to do so within a week
of requesting one.
