  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to veterans; directing the commissioner of 
  1.3             veterans affairs to study the feasibility and 
  1.4             desirability of providing free or reduced-cost health 
  1.5             care to veterans throughout the state; requiring a 
  1.6             report to the legislature. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [HEALTH CARE STUDY.] 
  1.9      The commissioner of veterans affairs, in cooperation with 
  1.10  the board of directors of the Minnesota veterans homes and the 
  1.11  United States Veterans Administration, shall study the 
  1.12  feasibility and desirability of supplementing the missions of 
  1.13  the veterans homes and the Veterans Administration hospitals in 
  1.14  Minnesota by entering into agreements with health care providers 
  1.15  throughout the state to provide free or reduced-cost 
  1.16  comprehensive health care to veterans close to their places of 
  1.17  residence as a supplement to private health insurance.  The 
  1.18  commissioner shall report the results of the study and any 
  1.19  recommendations to the legislature by January 15, 2000.
