  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; correctional retirement plan 
  1.3             of the Minnesota state retirement system; authorizing 
  1.4             a purchase of prior service credit for employment as a 
  1.5             social worker in the sex offender program at the 
  1.6             Minnesota security hospital. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [CORRECTIONAL RETIREMENT PLAN; SERVICE CREDIT 
  1.9   PURCHASE AUTHORIZED.] 
  1.10     (a) Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, 
  1.11  an eligible person described in paragraph (b) is authorized to 
  1.12  purchase allowable service credit from the correctional 
  1.13  retirement plan of the Minnesota state retirement system for the 
  1.14  period described in paragraph (c) by making the prior service 
  1.15  credit purchase payment required under Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.16  section 356.55. 
  1.17     (b) An eligible person is a person who: 
  1.18     (1) is currently a psychologist at the Minnesota security 
  1.19  hospital and is a current member of the correctional retirement 
  1.20  plan of the Minnesota state retirement system; 
  1.21     (2) was born on March 2, 1948; and 
  1.22     (3) was employed as a social worker in the sex offender 
  1.23  program at the Minnesota security hospital for two years and 
  1.24  three months from October 28, 1987, to January 31, 1990, and did 
  1.25  not receive correctional retirement plan service credit for that 
  1.26  period of service. 
  2.1      (c) The allowable service credit purchase period is two 
  2.2   years and three months. 
  2.3      (d) The eligible person must provide all relevant 
  2.4   documentation of the applicability of the requirements set forth 
  2.5   in paragraph (b) and any other applicable information that the 
  2.6   executive director of the Minnesota state retirement system may 
  2.7   request. 
  2.8      (e) Allowable service credit for the purchase period must 
  2.9   be granted by the correctional retirement plan to the eligible 
  2.10  person upon receipt of the prior service credit purchase payment 
  2.11  amount. 
  2.12     (f) The prior service credit purchase authority expires on 
  2.13  July 1, 2002, or on the date of the termination of active state 
  2.14  service by the eligible person, whichever occurs earlier. 
  2.15     Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.16     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
