  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; establishing a grant for 
  1.3             the deaf and hard-of-hearing and deaf-blind children 
  1.4             in Minnesota; appropriating money. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING GRANT ESTABLISHED.] 
  1.7      The commissioner of human services shall establish a grant 
  1.8   for the deaf and hard-of-hearing and deaf-blind children in 
  1.9   Minnesota.  The grant shall be used to provide specialized 
  1.10  statewide psychological and social assessments, family 
  1.11  assessments, and school and family consultation and training.  
  1.12  Services shall be provided in cooperation with the Minnesota 
  1.13  resource center; department of children, families, and learning; 
  1.14  St. Paul Ramsey health and wellness program serving deaf and 
  1.15  hard-of-hearing people; and the Greater Minnesota community 
  1.16  mental health centers. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.18     $900,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.19  department of human services for the biennium ending June 30, 
  1.20  1999, for the purposes in section 1.
