A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; modifying snowmobile
state trail sticker provisions; providing for trail
easement acquisition; appropriating money; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2004, sections 84.8205, subdivision
1; 84.83, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 84.8205,
subdivision 1, is amended to read:


Subdivision 1.

Sticker required; fee.

A person may not
operate a snowmobile deleted text begin that is not registered in this state deleted text end on a
state or grant-in-aid snowmobile trail unless a snowmobile state
trail sticker is affixed to the snowmobile. The commissioner of
natural resources shall issue a sticker upon application and
payment of a deleted text begin $15 deleted text end new text begin $30 new text end fee. The sticker is valid from November 1
through April 30. Fees collected under this section shall be
deposited in the state treasury and credited to the snowmobile
trails and enforcement account in the natural resources fund new text begin and
must be used for grants-in-aid

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes, section 84.83, is amended by
adding a subdivision to read:

new text begin Easement acquisition; appropriation. new text end

new text begin (a) The
position of trails acquisition coordinator is created in the
classified service under the commissioner of natural resources.
The coordinator is responsible for acquiring easements for
permanent recreational snowmobile trails.

new text begin (b) $500,000 is annually appropriated from the snowmobile
trails and enforcement account to the commissioner to acquire
easements for permanent recreational snowmobile trails.
